GEC as i see it..!!!

"Appa which one?"
"That one at the end of the road."
"Which one, the one with tile roofs?"
"Ya thats the one."

I Gasped..!!! I cud barely see the college building and that was going to be the place where I was going to enjoy the best part of my life? It wasnt even looking like a college.

"Looks like a primary school," I said.
And i came to know that it was once a primary school. That took away all expectations of campus life from me. That was the day when my father and I came to see the college staright from counselling at LMS. I was so dejected seeing the college. I argued with myself whether i shud b repeating entrance exam the following year and make it into cet. Well then i thought, "let me give GEC a try."

Then the D-day arrived. The first day at coll. New faces, new friends, new teachers, new air, new canteen, new water cooler and new dogs.. :D. I thought the dogs had a better life than me. First day, nothing much happened basically coz it was a half day and more tasteless coz our seniors were on a tour. SO much for the first day. Second day we knew things r going to be interesting coz seniors arrived. And even more interesting was the fact that the then princi was apparently just a person sitting on that chair for no reason. He was of course an acting guy for that post, but he wud have been better called a "dummy". The seniors were, to tell frankly, very very interesting and really energectic, especially mech guys. It was the first lunch break and i saw some guys hastily eating , washing their hands and rushing back to their classes in fear of ragging. Some were really brave and so brave enuf that they walked cooly like seniors into the other classes and went onto rag people there. All i did that day was wash my hands after eating and dumped into a person 6 foot tall and asked him,
" do u know where the toilet is?"
Well, crap me, i was sure an idiot,, that guy was a senior.
" Pinnentha, nyaan kaanichutharaam. Endey koodey vaa"

I turned to see a bunch of guys standing at the stairs which led down to the toilet. I knew where i was heading. I had no choice anyway,, so went with him. The next sec there were 15 guys surrounding me in a cirlce.
"Per entha?"
"Abinav"
"Aphinavaa??? Athu enthonadey? oru peru thanney?"
I nodded.
"Ninney aphinav enney nammal villiku."
"Sheri Chetta"
"Ethu brancha?"
"Mechanical"
"Mechanicala??? athu kazhinjuttu onnuma illey?"
"Mechanical Engineering"
"Evideya veedu?"
"Medical College?"
"Charakku melam thannedey avidey?"
"Oru vitham....:D"
"Enthinnu chirrikaney??"
"Onnum illa?"
"Onnum illengi chirikkuvoda nee???"
"Illa chetta, chumma chirichatha"
"Chumma chirikinadhendinu??"
"Sorry chetta"
"eee college kurichu entha abhiprayam?"
"Kozhapamilla"
"Ethu schoola?"
"Sarvodaya vidyalaya"
"Paatu paaduvo?"
"illa chetta"
"Illey???? enna paatu padiye pattu."
"ayyo chetta"
"Nee ingu vaa.. ee marathindey thazha nillu. Ippo nindey kazhil oru guitar undu ennu vijarichittu paadiko."
"ayyo chetta entho paadan?"
"titanic song metallica padiya engane irrikuvo angane"
"Every nght in my dreams.. ,
I see u , i feeel u ."
"dey ninney padaan mathram alla paranja.. guitar vaykada.. metallica kettitilley?"
"Ev ery nght in my dre ams.. dududm dudum,
I see u denh denh,, i feeel u denh denh..".
"O sheri mathi,, ninney kondu paadipichennu nammaley parayanam."
":D"
"Nee oru karyam chey. Kannu adachu ividey nillu. nammal paranjennu shesham poya mathi..."
"sheri chetta..."

I opened my eyes and saw i was standing there all alone like a fool and i cudnt see a single senior. They all went like crows flying at a throw of a stone..
"Y did they do so??" i thght.
I saw someone coming out of the staffroom. It was ramesh sir .
He came to me and said in his usual base voice,"enthayirrinu ividey korachu mumbu??"
"Onnum illa sir, toiletil poyatha.."
"hmm sheri ,,classil keru."

Well that was the first day of my ragging. It was real fun. But it came out to be that, the next consecutive 3 days i was ragged by different people each time. Ragging was faaaaaar more enjoyable and interesting than i thght. All i had heard about ragging was that it was dangerous and seniors hurt u physically and all sort of crap.... My seniors gave a new dimension to ragging which i didnt know. A new dimension which made me know them better and get friends. Whats life without fun? I had to shave the next day, call out girls from my next class, go to senior girls and propose, had to hit cars which gave huge alarm sounds when touched... Did lots of things in the first week itself.. Well thats when i thought that the coll wasnt as bad as i thought....

Then ragging went down, people started to mingle more. Seniors were just like any other friend to us. Teaching dept was one interesting spice to our coll at that time. Big titans like ramachandran sir ( Pandh) , loui sir, David george sir ( who was better known as "do sai" coz of his partial differentiation...:D) made us do everything under the sun except teach us their subject.

I remember what pandh used to do. He used to come in 15 min late, take the boiler schematic diagram from benjamin and start drawing on the board and when he finishes the hour ends and after drawing the whole thing he wud say," Ok we'll ...we'll do this again 2moro.." And walk away and used to repeat this stuff everyday. One time when one of my friends went to get additional marks for the series paper,, he said, "Put is put, no more puts. If u come for more puts then i'll never again put". Maaan that guy rocked the college :))

People like him made us alive when ever v were bored. Then when we became accustomed to the coll life,, series came in, then freshers' day, valentine's day, lotsa festivals, sports........ Hey the list is long enuf for any college rght?? I got gr8 friends. Everyday was new and interesting. It was the time each one of us started maturing better. Now it was "college" not "school".. ! :)
Now when i think of everything, i realize that if i had repeated entrance exam where wud have i headed?? cet max? well whats gr8 there? A better campus? More people? More girls? oh yes to all. But what difference wud it have made to my life? Nothing.. I am a kinda person who is always happy with what i have. The difference that me repeating wud have made absolutely meant nothing but make me lose one year. Except a small campus and a little less facility there r no defects in our college. Later on i understood that our coll worked very regulary, more regulary than any coll in the city. It had no unnecessary strikes, didnt have fights, it had better faculty who tried to give maximum attention to students. What more can u get better in a coll that came under KU?? I know many of my school mates who made it into cet, tkm and sct etc. They dont even know what they are studying.. Not even one bit. They barely touch their books the day b4 exam. They run out of sessionals, always under for labs, absolutely no attendance, get thrown out from labs, and have no idea where they r heading to in life except enjoying in the campus roaming around. So where is the difference? Is it the laziness in them?? naa.. its the difference in atmosphere and surroundings. Students in our coll also cut classes. Even i have. But not leaving studies go in a side lane track running into the water.. I know very well that if i had got into cet in the first place i wud have been one among them. Now am seriously very happy for all that happened with me after 12th.

Now when i turn back to these 3 years that passed i understand that God has given me the best place i cud have got in the overall perception and this mere fact gets me going. Come on guys the coll started only in 1999. Thats like just 7 years. And for a gov coll and that too in kerala u cant expect more. In these 3 years there was something called improvement that i saw in the campus. Everything started to grow in an exponential rate. New mech block is almost over, students are getting better, placements are really getting bigger, people fight out their way after entrance to join our coll, and all together the college has earned enough name inorder to be recognized as one of the best KU colleges.. Guess, where ever i go i will not 4get the coll which taught me almost everything,,,"the way to accept thngs in life as it comes...."

I guess thats more important than anything in life. And right now i am proud enough to tell everyone that i am a mexxian and a student of GEC.....

Life is always a box of choclates, some may be crunchy, some may be nutty,, but dudes every single piece is delicious in its own way.. !

Heyy.. Really Good post dude... U r one of the best juniors we have ever had.. And as Aparna said.. Will surely miss u guys after we pass out..
Ragging is one of the best that happens to u in ur college life.. This is an event after which u become tight friends with u r seniors.. The ragging episode has been described too beautifully .. And especially the Ramesh Sir's Part.. Heehee.. The various things that u had to do.. Really hilarious.. Ragging is toooo good and really enjoyable if it is taken in the proper spirits.. Classes in college.. They are another form of entertainment.. And some classes are too funny.. They make u ROTFL.
Repeatin and gettin at CET.. Hmm.. Our college is one of the really Good ones under the KU. With no strikes, nothin like that... And u have really carved out a really good name for the college by your writing.. Anyone who reads this is gonna have a super-duper impression abt our colls...
Anywaays.. Goodp ost dude.. Waitin for the next one.. Will miss u juniors wen we pass out..
